Sakari Taipale 

Sakari Taipale is an award-winning social scientist researching the social inequalities of new technologies. His studies address a range of new technologies, from mobile phones to social robotics, their adoption and use, often through the lens of digital divides, intergenerational relations and/or ageing.  

Sakari works as Professor of Social and Public Policy (yhteiskuntapolitiikan professori) at the University of Jyväskylä's Department of Social Science and Phililosopy and leads the research group New Technologies, Ageing and Care at the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care (CoE AgeCare). He has held visiting positions (University of Udine, University of Ljubljana, Open University of Catalonia) and served as reviewer for many international research councils and foundations. 

He is the author/co-editor of Embedded and Everyday Technology: Digital Repertoires in an Ageing Society (UCL Press, forthcoming, 2025), Intergenerational Connections in Digital Families (Springer, 2019), Digital Technologies and Generational Identity: ICT Usage Across the Life Course (Routledge, 2018) and Social Robots from a Human Perspective (Springer, 2015).
